Coles bookstore is now a division of Chapters-Indigo bookshops. In fact, Chapters was formed in 1994 by the merger of Coles and Smith Books, Canada's two largest book chains at the time. Following the acquisition, Chapters Inc. kept the Coles name for its smaller bookstores in shopping malls across Canada.Because Coles is owned by Chapters-Indigo, you can only purchase Coles books through Chapters-Indigo's official website.

Coles offers a wide selection of books across various genres, including children's books, non-fiction, fiction, and educational materials.
All of the books available in the physical locations of Chapters, Indigo, and Coles can also be purchased through their online bookstore. Orders over $35 get free standard shipping. Coles has numerous retail bookstores in Canadian cities such as Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Edmonton, and Vancouver. The bulk of Coles bookstores are located in shopping malls around Canada. It's worth noting that it goes by SmithBooks in some areas, and that the main company has only recently begun to create a few small-format sites under the IndigoSpirit brand.
