VoIP (Voice over IP or Voice over Internet Protocol) phone service is a new way to make or receive your telephone calls using your existing hi-speed Internet connection instead of the traditional standard phone line.
VoIP phone service converts your regular phone call into data and sends it through your high-speed Internet connection. At the other end, it comes out like a standard phone call. As a result, the person that receives your call or the person who calls you does not notice that whether that is a VoIP phone call or a standard phone call.
In fact VoIP is based on a technology called IP telephony. IP telephony is a technical term that covers all real-time applications over IP such as voice over instant messaging and video-conferencing.
The good thing about VoIP phone service is that it is less costly than a standard phone service. In addition, it normally comes with included and free features like Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding and voicemail.
Please be advised that for using a Voice Over IP phone service, first of all you need to have a high-speed internet connection (DSL or Cable) installed in your home or office.
You also need a regular touch-tone telephone and an IP phone adapter that normally provided by IP phone providers and you dont need to worry about it.
